Waterdeep: Dragon Heist #1

Much has happened in only a ten-day. I fear I must set aside habit and write things down. Should I “disappear,” perhaps these notes will serve someone.

My new neighbors—Agatha, Nyx, and Haldros—are now immensely wealthy after plundering a hidden vault claimed by many. Their fortune has been poured into Trollskull Tavern, Silvermoon Bank, and the rebuilding of an orphanage with Renaer Neverember’s aid.

Agatha came to Waterdeep seeking her missing nephew, Dasher Snobeedle. Her search led to a Zhentarim warehouse in the Dock Ward and, eventually, to the sewers, where halflings were being captured and turned into wererats. Dasher was among them, cursed by the Dungsweepers’ Guild, who guard Waterdeep’s dark underways. Will she be able to convince Dasher to cure his lycanthropy before the next full moon or will they find other solutions to his monthly lunar cycle?

Haldros, most mysterious of all, has not returned to House Phylund, famed tamers of monsters. Outwardly, he seems ordinary—his dray drivers Dean and Sam Longbow attest to that. Yet shadows follow him. An ancient evil tried and failed to seize his mind. He alone witnessed a being in the Pit of Blood and Fortune that devoured the memory of time passing. More recently, a figure in a mirror sought him out, seen by no one else. Will Haldros seek secret mirrors to answer the request of this “mirror man,” or shun his own reflection forever?

Nyx has uncovered the truth of her blood: why she, born of human nobles, bears infernal horns. A devil now tempts her with a cruel choice—slay her parents, or destroy a rival house. Will she bow to the bargain?
